We aim for WCAG 2.1 AA on schacc.org. This page describes what that means in practice today, and how to tell us when it falls short.

Our commitment

What we aim for.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA across schacc.org. We are not claiming full conformance — this is an ongoing goal, reviewed as the site grows.

Skip to content

Every page opens with a “Skip to main content” link, so keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass the navigation and reach the page content directly.

Visible keyboard focus

Links, buttons, and form fields show a visible focus outline when navigated by keyboard, so you can always see where you are on the page.

Reduced motion respected

If your device is set to reduce motion, the launch countdown ticker, scroll-triggered reveals, and other animations turn off or simplify automatically.

Self-hosted, accessible fonts

Fraunces and Geist are served from our own servers rather than a third party, so text renders reliably without relying on an external font host.

Alt text on images

Photos that carry meaning, like our founders’ portraits, have descriptive alt text; purely decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.

Color contrast

Text and interactive elements are designed against our navy, gold, and crimson palette to meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast targets.

Labeled forms with inline errors

Every form field has a visible label, and validation errors appear as text next to the field they belong to, not just in an alert users may not see.

Third-party checkout

Membership and event payments run through Zeffy, a third-party payment processor embedded on our pages. Its checkout experience is outside our direct control.
